--- Challenge ---

Our business is heavily concentrated in international B2B and healthcare primary research, where the costs to clients tend to be higher, but project execution is more challenging. Demand for access to verified B2B respondents and healthcare professionals, including hard-to-reach groups, including C-Suite, hedge fund managers, key opinion leaders and partners at Management Consulting and Accounting firms has never been stronger. These are the decision-makers and influencers within their organisations; hence, it is not surprising that they are in high demand yet hard to reach.

Today, our industry generally provides access to respondents either via online panels or traditional call centres, both of which come with their own challenges. While accessing B2B respondents via online methods is usually faster and cheaper, clients are increasingly requiring confirmation of (a) transparency - that those responding to such surveys really are the senior level executives they are seeking to reach; and (b) verification - that there is no bias. At present, because most panel firms are reluctant to release such information, it is almost impossible for clients to conduct their own independent verification checks.

Unfortunately, the consequences, of false/biased data, can be substantial: imagine a financial institution commissioning a consulting firm to conduct market research and provide advice on a multi-billion dollar investment into a country where they presently do not operate. If market research agency were to collate data from the wrong target audience, this could lead to great inaccuracies in the survey results – with dire consequences.

In 2018, the European Union’s General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) came into force. Since then, some market research firms have had to remove a large number of their panellists because they do not meet the GDPR regulations. Some MR firms are now finding it much more difficult to deliver projects with the required data quality and, as a result, loyal clients are moving their primary market research business elsewhere.
